OVERVIEW

The Whip is a negative card indicating quarrels, hurts, and all kinds of trouble. It often signifies difficult emotions like anger, fear, and hatred. Blaming others, often openly, also occurs when it shows up. It can indicate meting out punishment or a disciplinary measure.

Things go wrong and fail under the Whip. Some bright cards like the Clover, Flowers, Moon, Tree, and Sun, help lessen its impact, suggesting that problems can be overcome or aren’t so severe. The Whip is an intense card that is sometimes associated with sex, especially with positive cards nearby or in a relationship context.

IN THE PORTRAIT & GRAND TABLEAU

In the center of the nine-card portrait, the Whip indicates conflicts and challenges ahead, and answers a query negatively. On the first card of the portrait, it can mean that the readee is the one causing problems. Its general advice is to avoid causing more problems, but it can suggest “cracking the whip” and making things happen with a more aggressive approach.

In the Tableau, the Whip represents challenges regardless of how near or far it Is from the significator, but the farther it is, the less it affects the readee.

ADVICE

The Whip can advise us to work harder or faster, or be more aggressive to resolve an issue. If we’re part of the problem, it’s usually a good idea to back off. But more often, it demands that we confront the matter, acknowledge the problem, and start resolving it immediately.
