OVERVIEW

The Child essentially refers to children but it also indicates first steps, new beginnings, starting out, or starting over. It brings spontaneity, lightheartedness, fun and joy to any situation. It’s a card of openness and innocence. Through its association with children, it can also represent creativity.

IN THE PORTRAIT & GRAND TABLEAU

On the first or central card, the Child might indicate our child, that we want a family, or can start planning for one. It can also allude to our inner child. Alternatively, it suggests that we take first steps and move in a new direction. It also encourages us to be playful and adopt its positive traits.

In the Grand Tableau, a Child near or far indicates happiness, good friends, helpful acquaintances, supportive connections, and kindness all around, or possibly a new beginning.

ADVICE

The Child generally invites us to focus on our own children or on children in any area of our life. It also invites us to smile, laugh, lighten up, be more playful, and not take things so seriously. When the Child appears, it’s a good time to take a break and do things we love, spend time on a hobby, play sports or a game. We need to let our inner child out and do things we loved doing as children. We also need to be open to new ideas and perspectives.

As the card of beginnings, the Child is also about taking first steps in a new direction. On the flip side, and typically with negative cards, it can mean that it’s premature to start something. Or it advises us to be less naive and to grow up about some matter.
