OVERVIEW
The Dog indicates a friend, a circle of friends, friendships in general, or more broadly our social life. It most often represents a peer in any context. It’s generally positive and indicates trust and trustworthiness in others, unless accompanied by negative cards, in particular the Fox, Mouse, or Snake, which then clearly indicates someone being two-faced. The Dog can represent a pet, especially a dog, whereas the Fox represents a cat.
IN THE PORTRAIT & GRAND TABLEAU
On the first or central card of the nine-card portrait, the Dog suggests we’re well-liked and perceived as a good friend by others. It’s a good idea to spend time with siblings, friends, colleagues, peers, or pets. Alternatively, the Dog can suggest that we need to be more friendly and sociable, and expand our circle of friends. On the central card in particular, a friend or friendships figure prominently in our life at this time, or a friend has answers, proves helpful, or is otherwise relevant to the query.
In the Tableau, when the Dog is near, faithful and loyal friends surround us. Reliable people are available to help. When far, treachery and untrustworthy friendships are possible, but nearby cards also need to weigh in on this as the Dog is by default positive.
ADVICE
In general, the Dog advises us to be honest, friendly and kind, unless nearby cards suggest otherwise. The Dog is about the group, so we must help out where we can and be a team player. Openness, helpfulness, and a positive team spirit are Dog traits that we ought to adopt. With negative cards, the Dog usually warns us of someone having ulterior motives or being two-faced.
