OVERVIEW
The Tower is about longevity, time, the test of time, endurance, and the past. With that comes experience, expertise, authority, refinement, and erudition. Like the Key and Cross, it’s a mysterious card in the spiritual sense, and indicates that unseen protection and guidance are at play in our life as the invisible hand directs us.
The Tower also refers to authority and top leadership, so it covers government, official, and legal affairs, and tells of matters being legalized, certified, and receiving approvals. By allusion to the ivory tower, it further refers to high society and the elite. With its appearance, and especially with positive cards, it gives us the potential to reach the top and achieve our highest ambitions.
IN THE PORTRAIT & GRAND TABLEAU
On the first or central card of the portrait, the Tower foretells a long and healthy life, or a long-term commitment that we’re about to undertake. Because of its mystery, it asks us to trust in the higher power. Its key message is that there are no shortcuts and things need time.
In the Grand Tableau, the Tower near the significator tells of longevity and healthy aging, and suggests we’re being guided and protected. When far, it can mean illness or challenges, but this also depends on nearby cards.
ADVICE
With the appearance of the Tower, we should aspire to big goals and focus on the long-term. But it also encourages us to learn from role models and seek input from the right authority or expert. The Tower is generally neutral but its calm, wisdom, and patience help us through any rough patch. Though a little mysterious and slow, it encourages us to uncover the lessons and refine our understanding. It also cautions us against being so self-absorbed that we lose touch with the world.
